Repairs & Modifications
Trailers crack at the welds, not the steel: a seam splits, a hitch cracks, a floor rusts through and needs a patch that holds. SIMWELDS repairs and modifies trailers and equipment on site, in the yard or on the road, so the piece goes back to work instead of getting replaced.
A modification, a reinforced corner, an added bracket, a mount that was never there, gets built into what’s already standing, not welded on as an afterthought.
Custom Fabrication
Some jobs start with nothing but a measurement and an idea. A stand that has to clear a certain height. A support that has to carry a certain load. A firepit built to sit exactly where the old one burned out.
SIMWELDS builds custom steel from a sketch, a photo, or a conversation. Frames, equipment supports, structures, firepits. One-off pieces that don’t exist in a catalogue, because nobody else needed one built quite that way.

When a job calls for fire protection or equipment fabrication, the same standard applies. Steel enclosures, guards, and supports built for equipment that has to meet a spec, not just look welded together.

How a Job Runs

For anything on site, such as a trailer, a structure, or equipment, Simon comes and looks at the steel in person. For a build from a sketch or photos, he reviews what’s sent and asks what’s missing.
One number, sent in writing, based on what the job actually needs: no packages, no add-ons, no guessing at a range. That number is what gets decided on before anything gets cut.
Repaired, modified, or built from scratch. On site if the job’s mobile, in the shop if it’s cleaner that way. Measured, fit up square, and welded to hold. What’s left is steel that does the job it was built for.
How It's Built
The finished result starts with what you cannot hide under the paint. The work starts with a tape measure, not a guess. Every piece gets measured twice before it’s cut once, and every joint gets fit up before it’s tacked: square corners checked with a level, not eyeballed.
Alignment is set before the torch comes out, because a weld can’t fix a corner that was never square to begin with. Bead control matters as much on a firepit as on a load-bearing frame. A clean, consistent weld is a sign the fit-up underneath it was done right.

For a custom build that’s better handled off site, the piece comes to the shop and goes back out finished. Either direction, the area covered is both sides of the river, not just one.

The Work
A career in the trades isn’t built in a day. It’s built project by project, weld by weld and lesson by lesson. The build on record is a custom pump assembly, fabricated and fit to spec, from measurement to finished weld: measured, fit up square, and welded clean. That’s the standard every job after it gets held to, whether it’s the tenth build or the first.

Do you come to me, or do I bring the piece in?
Both, depending on the job. Anything mobile, such as a trailer, a piece of equipment, or a structure already standing, gets a visit on site. A custom build from a sketch or photos can often be done at the shop and delivered back finished. Text the details and Simon will tell you which makes more sense.
What areas do you actually cover?
Ottawa and Gatineau, and the Outaouais on the Quebec side: both sides of the river. If a job sits outside that range, ask; it may still make sense depending on scope.
Can you fix a weld someone else already did badly?
Yes. A lot of repair work is exactly that: a prior weld that cracked, a patch that didn’t hold, a joint that was never fit up square to begin with. The old work gets ground out or cut back to sound steel before anything new goes on, so the fix doesn’t fail the same way.
I only have an idea or a rough sketch. Is that enough to start?
It’s enough to start the conversation. Send a photo of the sketch, a phone measurement, or just a description of what it needs to do, and Simon will work out what’s missing from there. Most custom builds start exactly this rough.
How much does a job cost?
There’s no set price: every job gets quoted on what it actually needs, in writing, before anything is cut. A minor repair and a full custom build aren’t priced the same way, and nothing starts until the number is agreed on.
